This month’s expert speaker: Francine Pickering

Effective copy for websites

Good copy needs to be easy to read – by spiders and human beings!

Effective search engine optimisation relies strongly on ensuring that your on-page and off-page copy is clear and relevant to search engine spiders. But it has to make sense to the human beings who will be reading your site too.

Are the two incompatible? No.

If you plan your copy to meet the needs of search engines and people, you can achieve your site objectives in terms of: searchability, usability, readability

Francine will take you through the key principles of getting your copy right, to meet the objectives of your website. She will share with you some tips and ideas you can implement straightaway.

Francine is a Chartered Marketer, with over 20 years’ experience. She provides marketing advice and copywriting services for small and growing businesses in the East Midlands. Francine is the Director of Clarity Marketing.

This was my first ebusiness network event. Really enjoyed it. I have heard Francine Pickering talk before about marketing which gave me practical points that I applied to my website. As a web designer I now know that writing the correct copy for a website is as important as the website design itself. I hoped to learn some tips to improve the written content on my web site and the websites that I create for clients. Francine’s talk did not disappoint. Thank you. Loved the copious amounts of orange juice and fruit salad!

This was my first meeting, and although finding the way in was interesting (!) was well worth the visit. I learned some very useful pointers from Francine’s presentation, but also realised from other delegate comments that there is a lot more to this than first meets the eye. Good atmosphere, good food, well structured, and look forward to the next one.
